Library Hours and Staff:

Regularly scheduled classes are taught by Mr. Michael Puspurs, the Library
Media Specialist, during the majority of each school day. However,
students may come to the library individually during the school day for
research or book selection if arraignments have been made between the
Library Staff and classroom teacher in advance.
Mr. Puspurs may be reached by phone at (518) 765-2382, Ext. 520
(please leave a message if we are unavailable) or by email at
mpuspurs@vcsdk12.org.
We look forward to seeing you in the library!
Loan Policy:
Students are allotted 15 minutes at the end of each library class to
browse books and check-out.
Students in Kindergarten may check out one book each week.
Students in First through Fourth Grade may check out two books each
week.
Students in Fifth Grade may check out up to three books each week.
The loan period is one week. Students are expected to return or renew

What Happens During a
Library Class?
Our library program is based on the
Capital Region Information Fluency Curriculum and the
American Association of School Libraries Standards for the 21st-Century
Learner. It is also specifically designed to flexibly integrate
local and state standards-based content.
All students in Grades K-5 are scheduled for at least one weekly library
class. During this time, Ms. O’Donnell guides activities that integrate
21st century skills into existing grade level subject curriculum. These
classes combine the use of established research methods with innovative
current technology skills. Students at every level are provided the
scaffolding to become efficient and effective users of ideas and
information. Students are also encouraged to become enthusiastic readers
by engaging them with literature through read-alouds, genre studies,
book-talks, poetry slams, guest speakers and many other engaging
literature-based activities.
Students receive a grade for library class. This grade is based on
demonstration of: Respect towards their classmates, themselves and
library property.
